Day 1 - We are underway....

We left the Macaluso family residence at around 8am this morning and headed southwest. The car was rammed full of stuff!
We made it through Connecticut, New York and New Jersey then stopped off at one of the highlights of any American tour - Stephs aunties in Pennsylvania for a spot of brekkie. We hung around for a couple of hours and then hit the road again at about mid-day - sliding through Maryland and then onto West Virginia and finally stopping for the evening in Lexington,Virginia - So 7 states in one day - not bad! But unlikely to be matched on the rest of the tour.

Tomorrow morning we are off for our first bit of sightseeing to see the spectacular natural bridge (Virginia), a 215 foot limestone arch that has slowly been formed over thousands of years by a river. Apparently George Washington and Thomas Jefferson have their initials etched in the rock there - I am thinking something along the lines of "George and Tom waz ere 1780".
After that we are heading off to the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky where will spend the night. Our Sat Nav (Or GPS to the Americans reading this) will really come in handy from here on in - we want to make sure it is well guarded so have brought along Ken to keep it safe.......he is doing a grand job.
Just to add a sloppy but funny moment from our journey today. The sun was sitting high in the sky and it was a beautiful warm day. We had just set off on the journey of a lifetime and I was loving it. I looked over to Steph as we were driving and said "I love you darling and cant wait to spend the rest of our lives together in America", to which she replied, "Oh crap, I forgot to pack my hair brush". Thats true love.
