Day 10 - *Commercial Break*

Today was spent just doing one thing - driving, driving some more and then driving a bit further. We left the motel just after 9am and finally polished off Texas by about 4pm. We are now in White's city, New Mexico. It is a stones throw away from Carlsbad Caverns where we are heading to first thing in the morning. There we will be going underground once again! Inside there are apparently stalagmites and stalactites up to 60+ feet - Wow! After all our Elvis talk and caving we must seem some like nutty cave dwelling Elvis fans!

Driving on the open road today (about 7 hours) was not as bad as it might seem. Despite being a fairly flat terrain - the north west of Texas is a truly stunning and atmospheric scenery. A couple of mid-driving pictures are below:

We have managed to shack up in the smallest town in America though - its called White's City and we are in the middle of a huge dust storm and the power us up and down like Madonna's knickers - which doesn't help my blog updating! One good thing though - the reception has attached to it - a massive room with a mini-golf course inside!

Any who - So as not to bore you and prattle on about how little we did today - I thought I would give a shout to some of the things that have already reached legendary status for us on out tour. These are some of the things that if you ever do this kind of trip - you should take without question!

Firstly is our road map, roll out map of America, USA rough guide book and most of all the GPS! As said before we planned out our trip roughly before we left and marked it onto the roll out map - but the rough guide gives stacks of information on the states we visit as we go along - and then we can pin point where we actually want to go. Then its over to the GPS and road map to guide us in.

The second things that has been a massive luxury is the cool box. Each night we unpack the stuff in it into the fridge in our motel - then in the morning we use zip lock bags, fill them with ice and stuff them in the cooler. The stuff then stays almost ice cold all day - it keeps our fizzy pop, chocolate and water super chilled which rocks!

Lastly there is the 2.5 gallon of water we carry around. We have just finished our first one after about 9 days and picked up another one yesterday. We top up water bottles every morning with it and also squeeze it into the fridge in the motel if we can - saves a lot of money on buying bottled water everywhere we go.

So its off for more underground adventure in the morning - then onto Roswell...................DERELICT ALIEN SPACECRAFT HERE WE COME!!!
