Day 32 - A visit to 'Old Un-faithful'

Just to keep in tune with the smells of the Yellowstone we had eggs for breakfast. The motel we stayed in offered eggs cooked anyway you wanted! As long as it wasn't poached, or boiled...........or scrambled...........but they did have sausages! Although they were flat and not sausage shaped - odd.

Anywho - we packed up the car for the 32nd time and toddled off back into Yellowstone - first stop was to see the mighty 'Old Faithful' geyser. There is a large viewing platform where you can sit and wait for the geyser to erupt. We took our seats and sat patiently waiting for natures show - it then appeared we were not the only animals interested in the show! Brave little fella this chipmunk....

The chipmunk didn't stay for the show and to be honest - considering how long it took I don't blame him! The geyser is supposed to erupt every 50mins to 105mins at the most - needless to say we sat on the freezing cold bench for over 2 hours!!! Persistence was the name of the game though and eventually we witnessed the 200foot high blast of gas from the Faithful - I was tempted to chuck a watch in as we left to make sure it knew the time next time ;o)

2+ hours of this....
Then 2 mins of this!

After returning warm blood to our limbs we took a stroll around the impressive display of springs that were nearby. Not all of them were easy to reach due to snow on the trails - but we are a determined sort - especially as the one I really wanted to see was the last one on the trail - typical!
A nice pic of the trail....
A hot spring in the foreground with a bacterial forest pouring into a stream in the background.

A spring that looks a bit like an upside down USA?

Some ancient geysers - might erupt again one day - but we had already waited 2 hours for one geyser so we left these one's to their own devices....

More bacterial forests....

Large springs - this one looks like a cheesecake, mmmmmm....

Some more mesmerising springs, wonderful in color, variety and smell!

Doughnut anyone?

This was the one I wanted to see! It is called 'Morning Glory'. It used to be colourful but peoples obsession with throwing coins in anything that holds water has made the water turn a duller colour. It still looks amazing though....

The park has some luscious streams that weave their way through and around the rocky mountains. A few are below....

We have a date in the morning - a SKYPE call to my nan to wish her happy birthday! The only thing is - its at 6:45am for us - doh!!! So we are shacked up earlier than usual in an odd little town called 'Rexburg' for the night - time to set the alarm clock for daft o'clock!! Night Night all!
